Boo - tiful Halloween

Sorry it has been awhile since I have posted. I am learning life has its seasons : ) This card was inspired by Sylvia Long's Mother Goose. It has the cutest Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater who is a mouse. I thought this mouse from Crafty Secrets Mouse Party would be the perfect fit. I paper pieced the mouse outfit and colored him with Copics. The gate is  from Crafty Secret's  Garden Girls .The pumpkin pattern is from Splitcoast and is made with paper from the Earthy Collection. I designed the stem, leaves, door and treat bag. The door actually folds back and is adhered with foam tape. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a Boo-tiful day!!

Rock - A - Bye Baby

My sister's daughter just gave birth to her first baby. She had a baby girl and I am thankful to say all are doing fine. This sweet image is from Graphic 45's Little Darling Collection and it is paired up with some of their retired baby paper. I thought they were a great match. I added some embellishments and did some sewing and I was done. The doily was colored with a Copic marker.

I love this image because it brings back some of my favorite "Mom" memories - time spent rocking and singing together with our children  and then watching them   play with their friends and dolls doing the very same kind of things. It's hard to believe they are at the age where they are starting to rock their own babies! Anyone else out there shaking their heads with me wondering where has all the time gone?
Thanks for stopping by and may you enjoy a sweet memory today : )

Your Love

I needed an easy to mail encouragement card for some friends who have been dealing with difficult circumstances and in some cases death of a family member. First I stamped the grunge butterfly from Our Daily Bread's God's Love set in Milled Lavender  and the sentiment  from this set in Early Espresso on paper from K&Co's Flora and Fauna Ledger Designer Pad. Then I distressed the edges with Antique Linen and mounted it on cardstock and my card was done.  I go back and forth on whether or not these colors are too dark but some of these cards will be for men. When in doubt don't ask your children because every single one will have a different opinion : )

On a more serious note - this quote is such an encouragement to my heart because it sums up the love of Christ in such a beautiful and powerful way. My hope is that it would be an encouragement to your heart too and thanks for taking the time to stop by!!

Sweet Babies

Our second daughter has just finished her sophomore year of college and God gave her with two special families who adopted her while she was away from home. Both families were blessed with a new baby recently and I made these cards for them. I am so grateful for the love and care they have shown for our
daughter.

I used similar images from Graphic45 - one fancied up and the other very simple and I am equally pleased with each card. I definitely would say I am one of those eclectic kind of folks. I enjoy so many different styles!!
Thanks for stopping by and may you enjoy the new life that is in your midst!

Mother's Day Gift

I have always enjoyed and admired these banners and I am so happy that I have finally had the chance to make one! The images and music paper are from Crafty Secrets Creating With Vintage Typography CD which will be coming out in a few weeks. The chipboard letters are also from Crafty Secrets. They were colored with a Copic and covered with Martha Stewart black glitter.
If you would like to see an enlarged version of the entire banner just click on one of the photos below and it will come up in the gallery. It is photo number one in the gallery.

This is  my Mom's Mother's Day present this year. It is embellished with little reminders of the things that tell the story of who my Mom is that is written on my heart. My parents are retired in live in a modest home  in the mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania. Mom enjoys gardening along with watching and feeding the birds. The little egg is from Vicki's Etsy shop.

Mom also loves to sew and quilt. When I was about 12 years old she began teaching me how to quilt. It never ceased to amaze me as she would patiently rip out seams again and again to fix my mistakes.

Mom planted the seed in our hearts that it was good to have dreams and  pursue them ! She has painted and continues to encourage creativity wherever she goes. Even now when she comes across a fun trim or ribbon she will send it to me for my cards.

When we were growing up Mom played the piano and sang in the church choir. We learned that the wonderful and beautiful things in life are often the result of a lot of hard work and or practice. Yes we all had  music lessons and we pulled more than our fair share of weeds or at least that is what we thought : )

Last but not least - I don't know if you can tell but in this last this picture there is a gear underneath the rose embellishment. Mom not only  knows her way around the kitchen but she can handle a screwdriver and hammer too! So it was for all of us girls!
Well that is the inspiration and story behind my banner. Thanks for stopping by and letting me share a little bit of creativity from my heart!
I hope you have a Great Day and Thanks Mom for being you!!!

Project idea - May Day, Mother's Day or Teacher Appreciation

Our son's school celebrates May Day by delivering baskets to the neighboring homes of the school. I had the privilege of making the baskets this year. When I was brain storming with the Director of Development from the school on what this year's basket might look like I sent her a link to some of Vicki Chrisman's ideas  as seen here and here. She liked what she saw and sent home some Vienna Cafe cans and ribbon and I took off from there. The  bright pink is not what I would normally gravitate to but I certainly enjoy it - fun and festive! (Sorry about this so so photo I had a full memory card and was in a hurry so I just took one quick picture to send off my idea to the director to get the go ahead for the project.)

The 2.5 inch wired ribbon was the perfect fit for these cans! I just attached it with Scor - Tape. The handles were made from some little Dollar Store grape vine wreaths. Tip - the thinner the vine the better because it is more pliable. I used a nail to pierce the metal cans for the handles and a Cropadile for the plastic containers. I wrapped some foam tape on the ends of the handles to keep them in place. I do not have a picture of the completed project but the folks at school added roses and other floral items to the baskets.

Funny story  when I was making these I did not have all the containers and they would come in from day to day. So I being the organized (?) stamper that I am stamped, cut and embossed everything at the beginning. I told a friend my only worry was that all 50 containers wouldn't come in and would I need to come up with something new - we laughed and I said I just need to trust God. Well wouldn't you know after the first 25 were done and I had finished off my spool of ribbon when the Director calls to let me know she couldn't find  that particular ribbon so she bought a substitute. I silently groaned and the first question out of my mouth was "Does it match the pink? " Thankfully she said yes and sure enough it did! The only other change of plan was last weekend  when it was decided 10 more baskets were needed but that was easily solved  with a trip to the Dollar Store along with some more cutting and stamping !

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your surprises can turn into a smile for you today : )

Crafty Secrets New Typography CD

I've always wanted to make a pocket card like this and now  I am wondering why it took me so long???  Anyone else out there like me? Plenty of ideas and not enough hours in the day to execute them all.

This is the tag that is inside the glassine bag. I love what the glassine brings to the card. It provides a softness while  allowing the rich colors of the tag's design to be seen. I'm not sure if these photos or should I say this photographer does it justice!   I thought it would make a great bookmark. Now all I have to do is find a good book to go with it and it will be ready to give to someone special. Between birthdays and Mother's Day coming up I'm sure finding a home
for it will not be a  problem!

The source of inspiration for this card was The Shabby Tea Room April Showers  photo. It is filled with so many beautiful colors!  My image is from Crafty Secrets upcoming Typography CD.  I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product - previews look great!  The CD will be available within the next month. They also have a free printable for Mother's Day and tutorial that should be available tomorrow. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and I hope you have an enjoyable day!

Fun New Finds

I received some new goodies this weekend from Vicki Chrisman  and  The Funkie Junkie Boutique which meant only one thing I  had to take time and play! My image is from Crafty Secrets' Mini Vintage Scraps and it is paired up with  Memory Box paper. I have been in the process of making 50 May Day baskets for our son's school to deliver so it was fun to take a break and be creative in a different kind of way! I hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Celebrate Every Day

This is my first attempt at a collage card. Something very different for me but I enjoyed it! I began an online class with Catherine Scanlon and one of the first assignments was to use different types of paper and cut them into shapes. All of my papers and images are from Crafty Secrets. One of the papers had daisies so I thought it would be fun to cut it out and use it for my sun. The twig was painted and then sanded down because when my 8 y.o. son saw it he said " It needs some brown!" He was right : ) I also used some funky green fiber my mom had sent to  add texture and create grass. The sky was water colored. The card size is 8.5 x 6.5 inches.

This for my Mom's birthday and my wish and hope for her is that she would be able to celebrate each and every day because even on those days when it seems so very dark  the Son is still shining!
Thanks for stopping by!

You Color My World

Did you ever have someone who adds color to your life by just thinking about them? Well I made this card for a dear friend and her mom who do that very thing for me! It is a cool  and rainy day here but right now my heart is smiling because it is filled with the warmth and love of my special friends! I purposely left the top panel plain to help depict a work of art in progress. I  don't know if you can tell from the blog photo but if you click on it you will notice I  didn't color the whole branch. Just an extra little detail! Thanks for stopping by and may sweet thoughts fill your heart today!
